Tensions in Myanmar have been escalating over recent weeks, as the military refused to acknowledge the National League for Democracy (NLD)'s victory in recent elections, accusing the government of committing voter fraud.

Sputnik is live from Yangon, Myanmar, after State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi and members of her cabinet were detained by the military earlier this week. The armed forces announced a one-year state of emergency, citing alleged voter fraud during the 8 November general election, and promised to hold a new vote when the emergency ends.
